NAD is an association dedicated to democratic education and to supporting people exposed to political, ethnic or religious persecution, through workshops, youth programmes and gender-equality initiatives.

The decision

In accordance with the association’s statutes, its name was changed from “The Syrian Association in Northern Østfold” to "Norsk Akademi for Demokrati", reflecting the association’s broader purpose and objectives.

This decision takes effect immediately and forms the basis of all future activities for residents of Østfold and Akershus.

Support groups for minorities

Specialised groups offering resources and guidance to people facing persecution, and a supportive network for refugees and people affected by war or disasters.

Gender equality initiatives

Educational programmes that promote equality and support women’s active participation in political and social life.

Youth programmes

Programmes focused on democratic learning, leadership skills and community participation to build a generation of active citizens.

Cultural exchange programmes

Dialogue, celebrations and collaboration between cultural and ethnic groups to strengthen mutual understanding and tolerance.

Lectures and debate clubs

Open discussions on democratic challenges and current issues with politicians, academics and public voices.

Membership requirements and fees

Membership requirements

People living in Østfold and Akershus can become NAD members when they meet the membership requirements, support the association’s objectives and pay the annual fee.

Family membership350 NOK

Only the annual general meeting may change the membership fee.

Voting rights and eligibility

All members aged 18 or above may attend the annual meeting, vote and stand for leadership roles. Members who are more than two years behind on fees lose voting rights, and the board may terminate their membership.
